Summary: Another memory, and a hunter getting captured by the game.

Schuldig knew that his next few steps would require patience, and perfect timing. He would have to get Ran alone and then he would have to control the memories that the other man saw without Ran realizing it was him. He needed to make sure that Ran would have reason to trust him, and yet he would have to make sure the other man didn't suspect he was manipulated while the whole thing was happening. It meant that he would have to be very careful with the memories he chose, and the times that he did it.

He didn't have a solid plan yet as he sat in the car down the street. He was far enough away that it was stretching the limit of his abilities, but at least he knew he wasn't likely to be seen. He didn't expect Ran to go to sleep for a while yet, but he might be able to do something while the other man was awake. If he could do that without Ran not knowing it was him then the rest of this might work. So he should start with a test then, but what should he use? He focused on Ran making sure that his entrance into the other man's mind was as unobtrusive as he could possibly make it. While he found the other man's barely contained annoyance at the girls in the shop amusing it wasn't what he was looking for. But, with the other man working on a simple flower arrangement he figured that he could easily make the other man's mind wander a bit and not create too much of a problem. Which part of Ran's past to pick though? It would be better for this little experiment for him to use a memory that didn't have any special value. It should be something that Ran would likely remember, or think of, in his normal day. He concentrated and then suddenly Ran was remembering a conversation around the breakfast table. Omi was talking about a few orders that he would need to make and deliver that day. Yoji was drinking coffee like it was going out of style wearing a grin that said he had been busy the night before, and Ken was eating a huge breakfast while talking excitedly about a game that he would be playing in a few weeks thanks to getting into the semi-finals. What the others didn't know what how much Ran enjoyed this time. He didn't talk much, but he liked being with the others like this, not worrying about the next mission or thinking about which one of them was in the hospital because of a mission the night before. Schuldig smiled realizing he could use this as well. Ran wanted to belong, to be able to share things with others, not spend so much time alone. He wanted all the things every other human did, but he had shut that part of himself down so deep that he had almost convinced himself it didn't exist anymore. The fact it was so repressed meant it was a weakness Schuldig could use. It was another piece of the puzzle of the getting the other man to come to him. He would need to be ready for the next opportunity.

He waited the whole day, luckily Brad didn't call for him and Weiss didn't have a mission that night. Finally he could sense Ran going to bed. The fact that he was the last one of the three of them left at the shop to do it didn't surprise Schuldig.

Once the dream started he gently nudged it towards the morning conversation, only this time he was there with them. He was a part of the gentle ribbing and the daily routine. To Ran's mind he had always been there, like this. Someone he was comfortable with, accepted as much as Ran could anyone at this point in his life. Finally he was able to touch the other man's shoulder receiving a slight smile in response. He let the dream wander on from there and then headed back to headquarters with a grin on his face. He couldn't risk another dream for a while, but he would know when to use this when the time came. All he had to do was be prepared. What he hadn't expected was even though he knew the whole thing was an illusion he couldn't forget how it had felt. The laughter had been nice, and the simplicity of sitting down to breakfast without worrying about some ulterior motive somewhere along the way was far more tempting than he could have imagined. He could still feel the warmth of Ran's skin against his fingers. He had grown accustomed to the rest of Schwarz, but he knew that unless something changed drastically it would never be like that for them. He thought he had made peace with that long ago, but it seemed that this little experiment affected him as much as Ran. He couldn't shake the whole incident and the thoughts it had brought up in him as he went to his room without saying anything to the others.
