Tears of Truth Part 3
Disclaimers and Warnings: Please pay attention to any previous warnings and disclaimers.
Summary: Life is but a dream, in other words Schuldig is being his assholeish self.
The place was white. Annoyingly white actually. Not that Hiriko had anything against white. There was just so much of it though. She stood up from the bed she had been sitting on and called out, "Hello? Is anyone there?" There was a strange sort of echo that unnerved her.
"Never fear, you aren't alone." That voice again. She barely remembered what had happened, but it was hard to forget that voice.
"What are you doing here? Where is here?" She glanced around. It was a small room. Actually, now that she looked it just looked small.
"Here would be your mind. As for why I'm here, well I should think that would be obvious." He smirked as he leaned against a door frame that she was certain hadn't been there a moment ago.
"My mind?"
"It's a little bare now because you are technically unconscious. Actually, you should be dreaming now." He didn't sound worried about that though, which maybe wasn't a good sign.
"It isn't obvious." She went back to the previous statement glaring at him. It had nothing of Aya's intensity, which meant it didn't exactly prompt the answer she would have preferred.
He laughed smugly not bothering to cover it. "Oh, libechen you've been around them too long they are starting to rub off on you." He moved away from the door frame. "I promise not to tell Aya that you are interested, or maybe I should. It would only be helpful." He watched her carefully, she supposed checking out her reaction. Whatever he saw must have been quite humorous because he started laughing again. "You are indeed entertaining, but I'm not here to talk."
"You're not?" She moved back uncertainly until her knees hit the bed.
"That's right, I'm here to actually help you. Just the kind of guy I am you see." He crossed his arms waiting in the middle of the room.
"And how do I know I can trust you?" She asked figuring if this was her mind then she could wake up. It wasn't working, but she kept trying anyway. "Why would you want to help me."
"You can't." He shrugged. "You obviously need the help of someone who knows what they are doing."
She couldn't exactly argue with that logic, but she hesitated anyway since she could tell he wasn't saying everything. Finally she mumbled under breath, "Fine let's get this over with. Where do we start."
"Shields."
"Shields?" She wasn't sure exactly how that fit into helping her with telepathy.
"You're kidding, right? Shields, like in Star Trek...Didn't you ever watch that show?" He sounded as if that was some sort of crime in his book.
"I've heard of it yes." She rolled her eyes. "Okay, shields. Why?"
"To protect your mind. To let some in and keep others out. Also, the better control you have the more you can do eventually. Shields are the foundation. How can you not know this? It's basic."
"I..no one taught me or anything, and my aunt wouldn't talk about it." She felt strange admitting that to a complete stranger.
"No one? You should have been found when you were a child." He moved so quickly she didn't see him and grabbed her arm. "How were you not found?"
"Ow...stop you're hurting me!" She tried to pull away. "I don't know. Maybe it was the pills."
"Pills? What kind of pills?"
She thought about them for a second, to describe them mainly, and suddenly a bottle appeared in her hand. "These." Wow, that was convenient. She wondered if she could do something more with it, but she was distracted by the fact he finally let go of her arm.
He stared at them. "Don't ever take those again. It's a wonder you have any talent left." He shook his head.
"I don't...they just...Wait, what are they really then? Nobody will tell me." Could she believe him?
"There's too much to explain, but really you don't want to know. They are dangerous. Never touch them again, I mean it." He knocked the bottle out of her hand. "Now back to shields."
It felt like forever but eventually she could do what he asked of her. "Not bad for a first day. I'll be back." He turned to go.
"Wait! Why are you really doing this?" At least she should be prepared.
"We, and I think you know who I mean by we, keep tabs of others with our abilities." He shrugged. "And I know how to break them easily now since I helped construct them." He snickered and gave a laugh as he disappeared.
She was getting in too deep and she knew it, but she didn't have time to dwell on this as she found herself feeling funny. Everything around her was getting more transparent. Was she waking up?
"Yes." He supplied. "Poor dear, it looks like you won't be greeted by a certain pair of violet eyes when you wake up. She could really come to hate him.
