Tears of Truth part 4

Please pay attention to previous disclaimers and warnings. Still not betaed *headdesk* Yes I should really work on that.

Summary: A talk takes place, a second mission, and a truth revealed.

Hiriko woke up to find herself in a very sterile room. It didn't quite have that 'hospital room' feel, but it was close enough. She tried to sit up, but was slightly dizzy.

"Don't push yourself." Omi ordered as he brought her a glass of water. "You had us worried there for a while. The doctors were certain you should have awakened before this." He said with a smile taking a seat near the bed.

"Sorry." She looked sheepish as she took a sip of the water. "I'm supposed to be helping you and I'm the one that gets hurt. How long have I been in here?"

Omi laughed. "It wouldn't be a run in with Schwarz if one of us didn't end up needing some sort of medical attention." He glanced out the window. "Two days."

"What can you tell me about them? I mean I don't know much." She knew she couldn't trust Schuldig, but so far it didn't look as if she had any choice.

"We don't know much, other than their powers: telekinesis, telepathy, precognition. We don't really know exactly how to describe Farfarello's." He looked really disturbed by this fact, or it could be simply discussing the other group was disturbing.

"Where should we go from here?" She wasn't going to fail again.

Omi shrugged. "I'm not sure. We don't have another mission lined up, so for now we rest and get ready. Especially you." He gave her a look of concern as he stood. "Speaking of which I should let you get to it. They'll be someone to bring food soon."

She nodded. "Thanks." She should probably eat, even if she really didn't have much of an appetite.

It was later that night when she saw him again.

"You've been practicing?" The German asked.

She nodded. "Yes." She really didn't want to do this.

"Good. Now you're going to practice raising and lowering these walls, shields, on command. Eventually you'll be able to let some people in and keep certain people out all at the same time." He moved from where he was leaning against a wall. "And don't worry, I know you don't trust me, but no one where you are can help you do this, they just don't understand."

"How did you learn? You said I should have been found before now?" She concentrated and a chair appeared in the middle of the 'room'. She sat down waiting for his answer.

"You don't really want to know." He shrugs. "There are 'schools'." He shook his head. "More like training academies. You should consider yourself lucky."

"You knew those pills. How?"

"They were used for controlling things at the academies. And how did you find them?" He asked coming closer.

"My aunt had a friend who was a pharmacist. He told her they would help, but that he had to come to him to change the strength every year or so. He explained that she had to be careful." She wondered if this friend had anything to do with this place of Schuldig's.

"It's possible, but then again I think if he were you wouldn't have been hidden. He might have simply known of the research somehow." He shrugged. "And have you done what I said?"

"Yes, I've not taken them for months."

"Good." He nodded. "That's enough for tonight. It seems you'll be busy tomorrow." He laughed disappearing. She was not looking forward to this.

"Hiriko, we have a mission." It was Yohji this time. Something seemed to be bothering him, but she decided not to ask.

"Okay." She picked up her weapons as she followed him downstairs to get the details.

It only took a few hours and they were at a warehouse. "We're only here to get information. We aren't to kill anyone unless absolutely necessary." Aya's voice stated in her ear piece.

Time moved so quickly she knew by staring at her watch that they had been there about twenty minutes, but it felt more like five mintues. Finally they were ready to leaved the building when they were confronted by Crawford and Schuldig.

"We can't let you leave, I'm afraid." Brad said his eyes watching all of them.

"Just try and stop us." Aya said stepping forward.

"So predictable." Brad shook his head moving towards Aya.

I suggest you do something about your intrepid leader. She blinked not sure why Schuldig had said that.

Across the street they heard gunshots. "We have to get out of here." Omi said loading his bow.

Brad only smiled, which infuriated Aya as he went to follow him. She had to do something. The only thing she could think to do was stop Aya. She saw now what Schuldig meant. This was about getting them to stay, and the best way to do that was to keep one of them busy.

STOP! She ordered into Aya's mind. It was tricky, but she noticed he stopped. She whispered to Omi. "They are trying to get him away. You have to get him to leave. I don't know how long I can hold on." There was a coldness in Aya's mind and she never had probed much deeper, but at the same time it had soothed her before and it still did.

Omi nodded making sure that he kept his eyes on Brad and Schuldig. "Come on Aya, we don't have time for this." She let go just as Omi pulled him towards an alley way.

"You are trouble." Brad turned his gaze to her as the rest of Weiss went to follow Omi and Aya.

"I won't let you hurt him...I meant them." She knew it was too much to hope that he hadn't noticed the little slip.

"We'll just see about that." He said as he started towards her. Something stopped him though as he nodded and glanced up.

"You...you had a mission too?" She asked Schuldig as she ran after the others.

"And we were successful thanks to Brad. He didn't see your group here though. He wasn't pleased." There was something different about his mental voice and she couldn't place it. "He's more angry about something else, but he won't talk about it."

"Why are you telling me this?" She was pulled into the car right across from a glaring Aya. Not exactly another failure, but it sure felt like it when faced with his cold gaze.

"Some things shouldn't be kept a secret from family, imouto*."

She gasped and started shaking her head. "Hiriko, are you okay?" She wasn't sure who asked her.

"He's lying. Lying." And she didn't say anything else staring out the window as they headed back to the flower shop for a debriefing.
