Tears of Truth Part 6
It has been a long while, but I got the desire to work on some fiction again. It isn't likely that I'll be around tomorrow, but on Wednesday I might head somewhere with wireless unless I have to go take care of something.
Please pay attention to previous disclaimers and warnings.
Summary: Maybe truth really is the best option, or maybe it is the only option.
The next few days were luckily very calm at the shop. Hiriko was forced to aknowledge that it probably had more to do with her being distracted and not paying attention to what was going on around her than reality. The others had told her they could take care of things for the rest of the day so she walked to a nearby park area. The weather was nice at least, even if in her present mood she couldn't really enjoy it.
At least it meant she was by herself when the call finally came. The doctor she had went to had been a friend of hers from school. She had been a little surprised when Hiriko came to her, perhaps this revealed how little Hiriko had spoken about her family situation when they had actually been sociable. The other woman had assured her though that she would do the test as quickly, and as discreetly, as possible for old times sake. At least she didn't have to worry about who might be seeing her reaction as she listened to the results. Schuldig hadn't been lying. Of course this brought a few questions to her mind, what would he get out of her knowing and did this mean that if she had wanted she could have found out something sooner? But then again probably not. Schuldig had said he recognized something there was no way for her to even have any clue about.
She sighed thanking her friend as she hung up. Since knowing didn't change anything she now found herself wondering why she had even pushed it in the first place. Maybe she was just a glutton for punishment?
"If you are it might run in the family, though if you tell Brad I admitted that I might have to do something drastic." came the familiar nasal tone. She should have expected he would find her. Even if he hadn't been aware she would be waiting to hear from the doctor she should have known he would be keeping an eye on the members of Weiss. It reminded her that Manx had hinted that her own group wouldn't be ready for missions for quite some time. Kritiker had no experience in training Talents so she could consider herself lucky that for whatever reason Schuldig was helping her. She just couldn't afford to let her guard down anymore.
"Okay, so you weren't lying. That doesn't mean I feel like talking to you." She would much rather have spent the day not having to think about how precarious this made her whole situation. Would she have to tell her bosses? Had they already found out somehow?
"You might not want to, but if you want to keep on the good side of a certain sword-wielding red-head I think you should listen to what I have to say. After facing Weiss more than a few times I think I have a few suggestions on how to smooth this over. Abyssinian can be very prickly unless handled very carefully. She gave him a look not even sure how to take that comment. "And I never lie. I keep telling people this, but no one believes me." He shook his head almost sadly as he sat down beside her.
"And what makes you think I'm going to take your advice?" She made sure not to look at him as she debated getting up and leaving. That would be rude though, and while they were on separate sides she supposed that for the moment she should at least hear him out. If nothing else if she was careful maybe she could get some sort of clue out of this that would help them deal with Schwarz.
He gave a soft mental chuckle. "You can try to get information all you want, but I can assure you it is quite futile. As for my advice why not tell him the truth?" She must have made a loud noise at that because a woman turned from her food to glance in their direction. "An interesting reaction...what is so shocking about that?"
"You think that is actually going to make him less suspicious?" She was trying to figure out how that logic would work.
"Not less suspicious, but I think you are underestimating how forgiving Weiss can be. I can say with certainty they won't blame you. Chibi will probably even stick up for you if you give him the chance." He was smirking as he stood up. "I'd better head back before Brad decides I've had the chance to cause too much trouble and sends Nagi looking for me." He was gone before she had the chance to register much more than him putting his hands in his pockets.
With a sigh she stood and glanced back in the direction of the flower shop. It was now or never she thought as she started walking.
She opened the door and was relieved to find they were alone, and that everyone was there. Omi grinned as he saw her and got up from straightening something behind the counter to lock the door behind her. Aya was glaring at her with a look that said he was fairly certain he could see through her if he wanted, or at least that he wanted her to believe he could. She took a deep breath leaning against the wall as it all poured out. She was fairly sure that the guys didn't know anything about her past so she started at the beginning. She decided to leave out why he had told her to come clean and simply said that he had mentioned something like this probably shouldn't be kept from them. "I wasn't sure until just a little while ago. There isn't any doubt anymore." She finally stopped hoping that she hadn't talked too quickly, or left anything out. Omi gave her a look that could only be described as sympathetic. Ken didn't say anything looking thoughtful.
Yoji moved away from an arrangement he had been working on taking his time before he spoke. "It doesn't seem like these abilities are too common so a family connection makes sense."
She couldn't bring herself to look over at Aya until she sensed someone beside her and by process of elimination she knew it must be him. "Why do you think he told you?" He asked his voice slightly softer than she expected.
She shook her head. "I don't know. He didn't even tell me how he knew."
"I'll bet he got Nagi's help." Omi said as he glanced down at the counter before finally grinning and giving a slight wink going towards the door that led to their meeting room. "Give me a little while and I'll see what I can find out." He sounded determined and a bit excited. She supposed he was looking forward to the challenge. Before he left the room she gave him a smile and whispered her thanks.
As the door shut behind him Yoji gave Ken a playful punch on the shoulder. "Weren't you wanting to show me that DVD?" Ken looked slightly confused, but Yoji just gave a meaningful look towards her and Aya as he grabbed Ken's arm leading him out of the room.
She wasn't sure what to do now that she was alone with Aya so she fidgeted glancing down at the floor. He hadn't moved so she finally gave up and turned her gaze upwards. She hoped she didn't show how nervous she was or that if she did he would mistake it for being connected with her revelation and not his closeness.
"If you can still do your missions then I don't care who your family is." She hadn't known she had been holding her breath until she finally exhaled and nodded.
"It won't interfere." What bothered her more was she still didn't know what Schuldig was up to. She couldn't help but feel that he wouldn't have told her unless he knew he could get something out of it.
Aya nodded and then put down the towel he had been using to clean leaving the room. She was relieved that the conversation seemed finished for him, though she still couldn't help but fear that this wouldn't be the last time they would be forced to confront unpleasant information. For the moment though she knew it would take Omi a while to find out anything, especially since they weren't really sure what they should even be looking for. She had some sorting out to do herself before she would be ready not only to hear what Omi might find out, but before she would be ready for another mission, or face Schwarz again. Since she couldn't do anything at the moment she decided to head upstairs and get what rest she could. The sound of the doorbell stopped her before she left the room and then it seemed to mock her as she saw who it was. There were very few reasons Manx would be at the shop so late and none of them were good. At least no one was asleep yet she thought as she unlocked the door.

No she's not a Takatori. She was just being all secretive and suspicious which set off all his alarm bells. Plus, she's new so he's not going to let her in easily.
Oh he so would have which is why Schuldig told her to tell the truth. It works surprisingly well with Aya. Of course, he has quite a few secrets of his own about Weiss hence that handling Aya carefully comment. That might come up in the next chapter, or maybe the one after that. And of course he still hasn't revealed everything about why he is helping them, or if he is just training her to amuse himself or what is going on with that. Plotwise it should really start to pick up with their next 'mission'.
