Untitled (for the moment) Death Note fic chapter 1
This idea just struck me out of the blue today so I figured why not write it out. I have no idea where this going to end up, though it does use a very common fanfic premise I am hopefully handling it very differently than others. Since I don't know where this story is heading there is no rating yet.
Warnings: The only thing that belongs to be about Death Note is my obsession for it. This fic isn't betaed, at least not yet. The first name L (Laurian) is given in this fic is courtesy of the lovely
golden_purple18. Since I am not Buddhist nor Hindu my take on reincarnation probably will be off even though I am using those religions for a basis. I will do more research later if necessary. And there will be spoilers for the whole series.
Mu wasn't turning out to be what he expected L thought to himself as he watched events unfold from a rock that had appeared out of nowhere for him. He didn't really get tired, or need to rest his legs anymore, so he supposed sitting was just a habit from his previous life.
"Laurian, there is no point in watching." The feminine voice admonished from somewhere behind him. It said something that he no longer even bothered to look.
"Perhaps there is not, but I will watch anyway." He heard her sigh behind him as he watched Mello drive the truck that contained Kira's most recent pawn in the back. He could see what Mello couldn't as she hurriedly scribbled on the paper she had kept hidden. He knew Mello was aware of where this was going to end up, but it hurt him to see it anyway.
He heard her sigh behind him as she moved closer. "There are only a few more days left. If you do not return to Earth your soul will lose it's chance to be reincarnated and you will never be a part of the 'one'."
"You remind me daily so there is no chance I would forget it." He didn't take his eyes from the scene playing out in front of him. He was helpless to do anything for Mello or Near, but he would continue to watch anyway.
"I remind you because it is important." She knew she was wasting her breath though. Laurian, known on Earth as L, Hideki Ryuga, Ryuzaki, Eraldo Coil, and Deneuve, would do what he wanted as she was well aware. "You should prepare and not waste time on things that no longer concern you."
"Kira will always concern me." He knew now that he had always been right, but it did no good here in the nothingness that his soul had come to as he awaited rebirth.
"No, he will not. It is not your fight anymore." His stubbornness was endearing, but at the same time quite annoying.
"So you have said every day that you have come here." He shrugged.
"You will have to go back, or be stuck here forever." She resisted the urge to touch his shoulder. "If you go back..." She shouldn't even encourage this behavior in him, but she was beginning to think it was the only way to convince him.
He raised an eyebrow finally turning to look at her. "I thought you said it wouldn't be my fight?"
"It is common knowledge that souls which are connected often find each other again in their future lives."
"But you have told me that will not be Light-kun's fate." He stated as he watched her intently.
"No. Those who use the Death Note do not come here, nor are they reborn. Their experience is different."
"Why then would you even hint I will see him again?" As soon as he asked she knew she had made the right choice.
"I can't tell you everything, Laurian. You will have more fun figuring it out for yourself." She turned to walk towards something that looked like a castle in the distance. "I'm simply giving you something to think about." She knew he wouldn't watch her go preferring to turn back to the pool that allowed him to see the human realm. As he witnessed Mello's death he thought to himself; This is not finished between us, Kira. He bit his thumb looking thoughtful as the scene he was watching changed.
