So my Sims game continues to have its issue. Now it seems to be random, possibly connected to a piece of clothing or a hairstyle though I don't think I have it set up for townies to have access to downloaded stuff *shrugs* Anyway, it's randomish at this point and I can work around it so I'm just going to do the best I can. I deleted the cache again and deleted a few other things I downloaded recently so I hope that it is. I have some things from pixel_trade that I really don't want to get rid of...we shall see I guess *crosses fingers* If it stays like this I suppose I can just save OFTEN and work through it since it doesn't seem bad.

I hope to get another Sims post up soon, but I haven't been in the mood to take pictures and sometimes college annoys me, but I will work through it and then get an heir post up.

What's the issue? Sims 2, or Sims 3? I could talk you through it, possibly. Depends on the issue. Have you searched at Mod The Sims for people who have had the same issue? There might be a solution there.

Sims 2. My comp can't handle Sims 3.

Well the game is crashing. Quite a bit actually (once a session it seems). At first I couldn't get into a premade maxis lot, but I took out a lot of CC and made it in then gave them makeovers with the CC left and that seemed to help them, but now it's doing it somewhat randomly.

I think it must be a hair style or clothing. I recently got quite a few Sims from the pixel_trade community so it's possible something is going on with that. I've not done extensive testing yet, but so far it's been manageable so I'm going to see if it gets worse then I guess I'll work back through some things..somehow.

Do you have a PC or a Mac? If PC, there's a program you can use to scan for problem files.

The Sims 2 Pack Clean Installer will scan through the files you have on your drive. It'll tell you what's a hack, and what's a duplicate, and you can also help narrow down the problem files if it crashes on loadup, so you don't have to use your game to figure it out.

I have Clean Installer.

How would I check to see the problem file with it then?

when you load it up, does it crash at all? or give you any odd messages? If not, it won't help. If so, then what you do is move all the custom content to a file on your desktop temporarily, then move it back a bit at a time. You keep moving them a bit at a time, until you find the group of files that crash it, then put those in a new file and scan that until you find the one (or several) that are doing it. It's a slow process, but it's the only way to do it.

Really, that's what you do with your game, too, if it doesn't work with clean pack installer. It's just a longer wait time to get it to load. And if it's only doing it some of the time, then that won't be 100%, either.

If you do use your game to test it? Create a dummy family, and start using those to test the stuff you think might be the problem. That way, you don't have to lose all the CC on your families.

If that doesn't help (I know it might be a bit muddled), go to Mod the Sims and this page for more help.

It's the 'this application has crashed...yadda yadda' message.

I've done a bit of searching and trying and while I couldn't narrow it down I know it wasn't a hack or mod at least. I think it's got to be hair or clothing that I've downloaded with a new sim. At least that seems the most logical thing so far. If it continues/gets worse I'll go back and remove the Sims one by one, but with it being random now I'm not sure how long it will take me to find out.

I'll check out the page you suggested.

The Sims Package installer, or the program? if the installer crashes, use that to find the problem file, and just go through them putting them in groups in a new folder and scanning that until it crashes. That means the most recent files you put in the folder are the most likely suspect, and you can put those elsewhere, and scan those.

Hopefully that should help you find it, or the help page.

Good luck. Let me know if I can help with anything. I've had to deal with this a number of times myself. Very frustrating, very slow going, but it can be done without getting rid of all your CC.

The game itself is what is crashing. If I'm not mistaken it's crashing when someone comes on the lot with whatever is the problem, though I didn't townify anything so I don't know how a townie could have the problem item.

So far I can deal with it by saving a lot. If it gets worse I know what I put in recently so I'll just remove one thing at a time (thankfully most of the people make it quite easy to tell which CC goes with which Sim).

Thanks! I think it's just going to be a matter of how bad it gets vs. my patience and desire to give up downloads.

I know this is late *grins*, but I think I solved the problem with my game. Apparently I had a whole bunch of files that were using the same ID number. I'm playing through now so cross your fingers!

Never too late to figure out problems, and always good to know how they were solved. I hope it worked. :)

It seems to have.
